Mission Cap of the Night: Jarome Iginla
Jarome Iginla burned the Blue Jackets last night. I hate these little corny headers that are always used by NHL.com or other daily publications. He plays for the Flames, we get it. Fire. Burn. Whatever. But Iginla really did burn the BJ’s last night with 2 goals (including empty netter) and 2 assists to bring his season total to 66 points. His blue line to crease saucer pass for a Mike Cammelleri goal was amazing.
Iginla is having a “slow” season to his standards, with only 24 goals. By this time, I would expect him to have around 30. However, the scoring in Calgary does not revolve aroud Iginla as it has in the past, with the emergence of Rene Bourque, resurgence of Todd Bertuzzi, and the off-season acquisition of Mike Cammelleri. This gives the defense more to think about rather than concentrating solely on Iginla.
The Flames stand 3rd in the Western Conference, which will probably be the highst they get considering the two teams ahead of them. Kipper has been playing unreal of late and should finish the season strong. By the end of it, Iginla will be right up there in the top 10 in league scoring and his name will pop up in Hart trophy conversations.
